Besafe izi Flex isize review

The Besafe iZi Flex was the first iSize approved child booster seat and is is one of the highest safety rated boosters in Europe.

In the iZi Flex, your child is secured to the booster using the vehicle’s 3-point seatbelt. The purpose of child booster seats is to position the vehicle’s 3-point seatbelt correctly on the child to ensure it protects them optimally in an accident.

The iZi Flex does have isofix capabilities which are optional making it a great booster seat for vehicles with and without isofix anchors.

WHAT ARE THE WEIGHT AND HEIGHT LIMITS OF THE besafe izi flex?

The iZi Flex is a Group 2/3 approved child booster seat.

It is approved for use from at least 100cm and 15kgs until 150cm or 36kgs. This is from approximately age 4 until age 12 for the average sized child.

We do not recommend the use of a booster seat for children under the age of 4 years old.

WHAT ARE THE SAFETY FEATURES OF THE Besafe izi flex?

The iZi Flex is one of the highest scoring booster seats available in Europe. It has the PAD+ for additional chin and chest protection during a collision. The iZi Flex has a lapbelt guide that is used to keep the lapbelt over the child’s lap and not over the child’s internal organs.

Additionally, the iZi Flex contains normal SIP (Side Impact Protection) bumpers as well as a detachable additional SIP+ bumpers that absorb the additional impact of a collision by warping like a car’s crumple zone and therefore reduces side movement in an accident.

The detachable bumpers can be removed to make the seat narrower if space is limited. The iZi Flex consists of lockable shoulder belt guides at the headrest to ensure that the shoulder belt is always at the right height for the child.

The iZi Flex was given a score of 1.9 for safety by ADAC with a very low risk of injury in a side collision and an average risk of injury in a frontal collision. The use or non-use of the isofix does not make a difference in the safety of the seat.

WHAT ARE THE COMFORT FEATURES OF THE izi flex?

The iZi Flex has good padding all round for comfort and protection. The headrest has been designed to assist with sleeping support but at the same time, the design allows for a better view for the child.

The PAD+ chin support helps to soften the vehicle shoulder belt against the chest and shoulder to minimize belt indentations and friction.

Sleeping in the iZi Flex is comfortable as it has a good recline position. The headrest of the iZi Flex is easily height adjustable from either side of the seat.

HOW IS THE izi flex INSTALLED?

The iZi Flex is installed with either just the vehicle’s 3-point seatbelt or with isofix in combination with the vehicle’s 3-point seatbelt.

Either installation is safe, however the isofix does limit movement of the seat. Therefore, if you do not use the isofix on the seat, you should always strap the seatbelt around the seat when not in use to prevent it from becoming a projectile in an accident.

HOW TO RemovE and wash the covers?

The iZi Flex’s covers are removable and can be washed in a washing machine on a low temperature. However, the removal and replacement of the cover is slightly complex and can lead to accidental damage to the seat if not done carefully and according to the instruction manual. A summer cover is available to protect the upholstery and makes cleaning easier

WHAT IS THE LIFESPAN OF THE izi flex?

The iZi Flex should be used from around 4 years old until 12 years old for the average sized child. Therefore, the seat can be used for approximately 8-9 years. This is only applicable if the seat has not been damaged, dropped, or in an accident.

WHAT IS THE warranty on THE izi FLEX?

Besafe products have a 24 month warranty from date of purchase. This covers free replacement or repair of a proven ‘manufacturing fault’.

is the izi flex compatible with my car?

The iZi Flex is compatible with any cars that have full 3-point seatbelts. The iZi Flex cannot be installed with a lap belt and must not be installed in front of an active airbag as the force of the airbag deploying can severely injure the child.

The iZi Flex can be used with or without isofix. Therefore, the vehicle does not need to have isofix anchors for installation of the iZi Flex.

WHAT ARE THE DIMENSIONS of the izi flex?

The iZi Flex weighs 7kg’s and the dimensions are
L42 x W52 x H64 cm with the extra side impact bumpers and L42 x W44 x H64 cm without the extra side impact bumpers.

What is the difference between the izi flex and the izi flex s?

The iZi Flex S (where the "S" stands for slim) is a slightly narrower version of the original iZi Flex. The seat is made narrower by the removal of the additional side impact protection. This makes the iZi Flex S a good option if you need to fit 3 car seats across in your vehicle as it takes up less space.

The iZi Flex has the additional SIP+, chin pad and lapbelt guide. The iZi Flex also has a recline feature. The iZi Flex S does not have these additional features and is therefore less expensive. You can. however, purchase the chin pad and SIP+ separately for the iZi Flex S if you wish

How to adjust the iZi Flex according to your child’s height?

The seat’s headrest can be adjusted for your child’s height by simply turning the height adjustment handle located on either side of the seat.

The seatbelt should sit comfortably between the child's neck and shoulder. The seatbelt should not sit higher or lower than around 2 – 3cm above the child’s shoulder.

Adjust the headrest to ensure the seatbelt does not cut into the child’s neck or the shoulder belt guides do not touch the child’s shoulder. The child’s head should be protected by the shell of the headrest.
